Jawaz is the electronic tolling system for Morocco's motorways: an electronic tag that lets you pass toll plazas without a long stop. Widely deployed, it has transformed the toll experience. Here is how it works, how to top it up, and what to watch out for.

What is Jawaz?

Jawaz is a tag (or electronic sticker) fixed to the windscreen. Linked to a prepaid account, it is automatically recognised as you approach the toll plaza. The toll amount is drawn from the account balance, and the barrier opens with no ticket handling or cash payment.

How it works

The principle relies on contactless communication between the tag and an antenna installed at the plaza:

  1. The vehicle fitted with the Jawaz tag approaches the electronic-tolling lane;
  2. The antenna reads the tag and identifies the associated account;
  3. The toll amount is deducted from the account balance;
  4. The barrier opens and the vehicle continues without a prolonged stop.

This reduces queues and smooths traffic at plazas, especially at busy times.

Topping up your account

The Jawaz account is prepaid, so it must be topped up regularly. Top-ups can be done through various channels (physical points, online or app-based services, as officially offered). As the exact arrangements evolve, we do not detail them here.

For current top-up points and methods, and any official app, search for ADM's information (adm.co.ma) in your browser. This site has no access to your Jawaz account and cannot process any top-up.

Limits and precautions

Jawaz is not without constraints. An insufficient balance can cause problems at the plaza; a poorly positioned or faulty tag may not be read; and not all collection points are equal depending on equipment. Compatibility and special procedures (changing vehicle, lost tag) should be verified officially.

Best practices

  • Keep a sufficient balance before long trips;
  • Check the correct positioning of the tag on the windscreen;
  • Keep a backup payment method (cash) just in case;
  • Use the lane signposted for electronic tolling and respect the approach speed.
